He says he loves me but his actions say he doesn't not sure how he feels????

we have been together for 2 years, live together, ilove him he says he loves me. However, 2 weeks ago I had a hysterectomy. we had planned on going to california, but plans changed when I found out I had to have surgery then. My plans changed his plans didn't. when I call him within a few hours of telling him that I had to have surgery and couldn't go he had his friends going. I told him that I was really hurt that he would still be going to CA, well we got into a huge fight. through out that week he kept telling me he wasn't going, and pouting about it. So I just said to go. He was totally manipulating me to get what he wants. anyhow he ended up going to california. the night before surgery he decides that he is coming back hombc i haven't answered his calls since he had left. Now I feel so hurt that he wouldn't want to be by my side when i need him. Am I being selfish? I feel that he doesn't love me as much as he says i do. Not sure what to do from here.
