What was the nazi soviet pact and what effect did it have?
It was a pact signed by Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin on 28th August 1939. Basically, they were to become allies, which was a shock to the general public, because Hitler hated Communists, and Stalin also took a grim view on the Nazi regime. The terms stated that if Germany invaded Poland, (which was neighbouring Russia), that the Russians would not do anything to stop Germany, even if the Allies asked them to. In return, Germany and Russia would receive an equal amount of Polish territory, which they felt rightfully belonged to them. Russia particularly hated Poland because the creation of this young country, that came into existence after WWI, had cost them important and valuable territory.
