Tried to start car(95 olds achieva 3.1 v6) made loud clanking noise now it won't start what's the problem?

the battery is good it has clean new oil it just won't start for some reason i think it's the starter,but someone said that a rod is loose or knocking.i have no clue what's going on?can anyone help me?
